Life…and Death

9 Mar

Spring has arrived here in Central Florida.

The air is balmy and warm.

The birds are singing and building their nests.

Last year’s oak leaves are making way for bright green growth.

Flowers are blooming, a glorious celebration.

Amidst all of this riotous Life walks Life’s eternal companion, Death.

Who appeared yesterday and lured away my littlest darling, Teddie, aged 12 years and 8.5 months:

FOR TEDDIE

Within the heart of every dog,
No matter how little,
No matter how small,
Lives a giant, ten feet tall.

Within the eyes of every dog,
No matter how old,
No matter how young,
Lives endless love, pure and strong.

Within the soul of every dog,
No matter if living,
No matter if gone,
Lives the divine, an eternal song.

With all my heart, and tears and soul,
I mourn my dear Teddie,
My tiny giant, heart big as a whale,
Who waits for me, beyond the veil.

Goodbye, precious baby.

What the Moon Saw

Dear Readers

Here is a poem written for the Fantasy Artists of Etsy blog, “What the Moon Saw”, back in September 2010:

What the Moon Saw

There are many who’ve written down
Just what the moon has seen
But they have never written down
Just where the moon has been

For she has been to fairyland
To spy upon a team
That makes and sells most everything
That dances in a dream

The Beast and His Beauty

Dear Readers

Here is a poem written for the Fantasy Artists of Etsy blog, “The Best of the Beast and His Beauty”, back in September 2010:

The Beast and His Beauty

If you find that you’re a Beauty
Kind as the day is long,
And you’re in love with a Beast
Who tends to get things wrong,
Staying with the Beast is not your duty, Beauty,
Not in the least, poor Beast.

But.

If the Beast hasn’t broken the law,
Or dislocated your lower jaw,
Doesn’t say things that stick in your craw,
Or snore like the proverbial saw,
Hasn’t drawn the shortest straw,
And keeps a neat and tidy claw,
Knows how to read and can even draw,
And makes you giggle and even guffaw…

May you go through life together,
Happily ever after,
Hand in paw.

Dark Dreamings

Dear Readers

Here is a poem written for the Fantasy Artists of Etsy blog, “Dark Dreamings”, back in August 2010:

Dark Dreamings

If you can’t sleep tonight
And your dreams are dark,
If nightmares bite your toes
And your bed’s full of sharks,

If eyes glow red
And beetles crowd your bed,
If there’s horns on every head,
And the walking are all dead,

You’ll know who to thank
For your pitiful plight,
‘Cause she got you good
With her fabulous frights.

First that skull will start to speak,
And venomous tales will it leak,
Suddenly will the athame strike
And the dryad will become unlady-like.

Her visions and images
Want to swallow you whole,
Morning better come quick
Or you’ll lose your soul!

Dear Readers

Here is a poem written for the Fantasy Artists of Etsy blog, “Bewitched!”, back in August 2010:

Bewitched!

Get the cauldrons scrubbed
And the brooms re-thatched,
Get your black hat out
And your wand well waxed.

When the witching hour
Sneaks upon them unseen,
We’ll pull tricks on them
This Halloween!

Poor Rapunzel

Dear Readers

Here is a new poem written for the Fantasy Artists of Etsy blog, “Rapunzel’s Riches,” back in August 2010:

Poor Rapunzel

In ancient tellings of Rapunzel
The beauty fared not well
Her witch protector threw her out
As her belly began to swell

Her golden hair shorn away
In murky swamps did she dwell
And fed her two babes at her breast
In misery none could quell

Her prince the witch had blinded
For visiting her in her tower cell
And not until he found her again
Would the witch unspeak her spell.

New Faerie Scribble

12 Feb

I posted a new poem (finally!) called “My House Faeries” on my companion blog, Faerie♥Kat’s Faerie♥Scribblings.  You would think I had to pull out a few teeth to get this baby to crank out, and you wouldn’t be too far from the truth (thankfully, they weren’t my teeth).  My creative writing efforts of late have been mostly confined to writing blurbs for my boutique item descriptions!  I hope my faerie muse has moved back home; if not for good, at least for a while.
