Who Knew?

26 Jan

I had to go into the kitchen and check this out for myself. Who looks at the ends of the aluminum foil box? Mine didn’t have this, and neither did my wax paper (they look ancient, though). However, my parchment paper box did and I use a lot of parchment paper. My Glad press and seal box came with a plastic inserts and it’s a fairly new product.

My friend Monica, who said, “Now, if someone would just make plastic wrap that didn’t stick to itself,” sent me an email that forwarded the following text:

I’ve been using aluminum foil for more years than I care to remember. Great stuff, but sometimes it can be a pain. You know, like when you are in the middle of doing something and you try to pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over. The darn roll always comes out at the wrong time.

Well, I would like to share this with you. Yesterday I went to throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it and looked at the end of the box. And written on the end it said, ‘Press here to lock end’. Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. How long has this little locking tab been there? I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too! I can’t count the number of times the Saran wrap roll has jumped out when I was trying to cover something up.

Thanks, Monica!

That made me laugh, I didn’t know till a while after using all these roll in a box things & doing just what you did, but yes it makes life easier. also I believe you can buy glad wrap (or as we call it cling film)with perforations already made. Also there is a little sticky pad on the box that stops you losing the end. xx

I’ll have to get some now. I’ve been out for quite some time and keep
forgetting to pick some up; I know this is going to be the perfect reminder!

Seriously, not making light.. I had no idea that wasn’t generally known. Perhaps I would’ve been blind to it had I not grown up with Momma doing it on all the foil and plastic wrap packages.

If I were a beautiful and talented Kitchen Goddess like you, Stacy, the
whole art of cooking would be a lot less mysterious (and might I say
dangerous?)! I love that you are so smart and can find your way around a
kitchen with such ease and grace. You’re a delightful smarty pants, while
      I’m just a smart ass!
