Military Funerals Protested by Cultists

7 Feb

My friend, Kelli_Shannon Ravenswing, posted the following video on her blog and requested viewpoints and comments. She, herself, was “completely and utterly PISSED OFF” by the video (justifiably in my opinion), especially by the woman “SMILING through the whole video interview and PROUDLY spout[ing] that she truly ENJOYED Picketing Military Funerals with signs saying, ‘THANK GOD FOR 911’, ‘GOD HATES YOU!’, etc. [and] saying that GOD is PUNISHING us because we are failing to OBEY HIS WORD and LAW and will continue to PUNISH US and ANYONE who does not OBEY HIM made me SICK to the Stomach!”

Here is the comment I posted on her blog:

Hi Sweetie

The reason this makes rationale and reasonable people angry is because these people are EXTREMISTS. There is never any value in extremity in either direction. As pagans, witches and Wiccans, we recognize that balance, the center, is where health, sanity and justice resides. The Phelps/Ropers are indeed cultists; they thrive on confrontation and cannot be engaged in useful dialog because their minds are entirely closed to any suggestion that they actually examine what they spout or have been told by their leader, who is this woman’s father, Fred Phelps.

As if any further indication were needed regarding the inherent insanity being bred into this community, one need only be told that Fred Phelps actually shot a dog during a family meal “because it was annoying him.”

You will be happy to know that this “church” is being monitored by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and has been classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). “The [ADL] describes the Westboro Baptist Church as ‘virulently homophobic’, whose anti-homosexual rhetoric they say is often a cover for anti-Semitism, Anti-Americanism, racism, and anti-Catholicism. The [SPLC], an anti-hate group, has added the Westboro Baptist Church to its list of hate groups. Many mainstream conservative and fundamentalist Christians (including those who oppose homosexuality, such as Jerry Falwell), have denounced Phelps’ remarks as hateful and un-Christian, and in general oppose Phelps’ view that homosexuals cannot repent (the traditional view is that homosexuality is not the ‘unpardonable sin’; homosexuals may ‘renounce their ways’ as may any other ‘sinner’). Falwell is often credited with referring to Phelps as ‘a first-class nut’. WBC picketed the funeral service of Falwell on May 22, 2007.” So even Christians recognize and won’t back up these extremists.

Furthermore, “[m]ainstream Calvinist churches have claimed that Westboro’s agenda and its message of hate are at variance with Calvinism, as well as all fundamental Christian theology. Westboro has been labeled as a cult by many Christian ministries; as well as by anti-cult figures such as Rick Ross. Westboro’s theology differs considerably from mainstream Christianity by espousing that individuals will be given eternal damnation for any number of sins. The members justify their messages, which they acknowledge to be alarming and hurtful, because the messages are intended to turn people from their current paths which will cause them to be sent to hell. The teachings and theology of Westboro Baptist Church is not Christian, not does it resemble Christianity in any way.” So while they may claim to be Christians, the Christians are say ain’t no way!

Final Notes:

The interview you posted occurred on the 18th of April 2006. Until Heath Ledger’s recent death, they received relatively little media attention. However, because of Ledger’s role in Brokeback Mountain, they are now using his death to further the core of their philosophy, which is that every tragedy in the world is linked to homosexuality and that “God hates fags.”

“A small number of Phelps’ critics have suggested that the actions of the Westboro Baptist Church [WBC] are a ploy to receive attention above all else. Counter-protesting against the group, they suggest, gives them attention and incentive that they do not deserve; and a more effective response against Phelps would be to ignore his congregation completely. The WBC, through the closely related Phelps Chartered law firm, has collected fees under the Civil Rights Attorney’s Fees Award Act of 1976 when their protests have been unlawfully disrupted.”

This makes great sense to me. Since their “congregation” is primarily their own family members, what better way to make a living? Set yourselves up as America’s most despised community, place yourselves in positions where people are sure to disagree with what you are “legally” allowed to do (i.e., protest), and when conflicts occur as they inevitably will, sue somebody and rake in the big bucks. These people may be deranged, psychotic and disgusting, but it appears that they are not stupid.

I once read a story on a blog not long ago about
a college teacher who would stand up in front of his
class and bitch and moan about how evil the US is and
how evil the military is…He would rant and rave about
this and that filling the room full of his nonsense sh*t,,
and also in this room was a young marine…Well one day
after the teacher got done with his monologue,, he said
“May God strike me down if this ain’t true”…The class was
quiet for a few moments and then the marine got up and
cold cocked the guy…The teacher laying on the floor rubbing his jaw looks up at the young marine and asks “What the h*ll did you do that for?”…the marine answers…”God,, was busy,, so he sent a Marine”…I like that story…..
Course its just a moralist story,, but I think you get the idea…

It should also be remembered that freedom of speech is not
guaranteed by the first amendment…The first amendment says that the ‘GOVERNMENT” can not infringe apon a
persons freedom of speech…but a cemetery owner or for that matter anyone else,, that is not associated with the ‘GOVERNMENT’ can stop you from speaking,, or protesting…

Nuts and wackos (and Hillaryites) crawl out of the woodwork
every day…Heavens Gate,, the Branch Dividians,,
Jim Jones,, suicide Islamic bombers…Like you said,, there’s no talking to them,, no reasoning with him,, this is especially true if their religious zealots…So lets just hope they make themselves some cyanide kool-aid and catch a comet to some other dimension…..

    Hi GT281

If you’ll buy the Kool-Aid, I’ll call Galaxy Interspecies Allied Speeding Rocks Inc. and ask them to send a comet right over, tuit suite! I’m sure the WBC’s already got the cyanide in their kitchen cupboard, so that’s all the bases covered.

Of course I’ll buy,, what flavor do you what and how many paks?…
Course there will be one extra passenger I’ll have to
insist goes along,, kind of like a chaperone…You know it
takes a village,, so I’m thinking that the village idiot
    should go along too….

    leaping lizards and jumping toads,,
almost time to hit the road…
