Tats, Tags & Siggies

Whatever you want to call ‘em, I’ve got ‘em.

For awhile now I’ve noticed quite a few bloggers who “sign” their posts – and I was very jealous.  I have a digital copy of my signature, my real signature, that I used when I was a Contracting Officer for the U.S. Government, but I hardly wanted to be spreading that puppy all over my blog where someone could, oh I don’t know, download it and use it to empty my bank account of it’s last twenty-six cents.

I was reading the definition of “tagger” as it related to scrapbooking kits the other day and a previously very dark region of my brain lit up in a glorious wave of “ah ha”edness (otherwise known as an epiphany, but I’ve already used that word about 3,428 times on this blog and I know you get tired of reading it over and over and over and I thought I’d spice things up).  Lower resolution digital scrapbooking kits are called “tagger” kits after the smaller resolution “signature” designs people began making for social sites, like MySpace, umptity years ago when the digital world was young.  Since a great many of these designs had voluptuous and scantily clad women used in them, some people called them “tats,” which as we can all guess is short for “tattoo.”  “Siggies,” I hope you have all divined, is short for “signatures.”

When people began making sets of digital art for, as an example, a complete website design, they would use these tats or siggies to “tag” the set as their design and, viola, a third name for the same thing developed.

Now that I’ve been learning so much about the software behind all this fun stuff, I can make my own siggie, and you  may have noticed that it is now appearing at the bottom of my posts, retroactively.  But o’ course I couldn’t just put my name, oh no; I had to add a bit o’ the extry and turn mine into a real tat, and o’ course I couldn’t have just one, they’re just too delicious to stop with one itty bitty nibble.

Epiphanies are everything they’re cracked up to be, IMO.  Ha!
